Meet business development manager, Smaragda Krynauw
We would like to introduce you to our business development manager, Smaragda Krynauw, who joined us earlier this year. She has a B.Ed degree and practised as a teacher, both locally and abroad, before switching careers and moving to the investment industry in 2013.
We posed the following questions to her, to get to know her better:
1. What attracted you to Denker Capital?
After my first interview, I knew this was the place for me. I felt right at home from the first day I stepped foot into the office. The transparency is something that stood out to me as I could align my personal values with those of Denker Capital. Additionally, I’ve found that the culture is so inclusive and supportive here.
2. What does your role entail, and what do you enjoy most about it?
As the business development manager, I (simply put) build relationships. I go out to brokerages, independent or corporate clients to introduce them to Denker Capital and to find ways we could help their business grow. The part I enjoy most is meeting new people and establishing new relationships.
3. If you didn’t work in the asset management industry, what do you think you would have done instead?
I most likely would have continued teaching abroad.
4. Why did you choose a career in the asset management industry?
I think it actually chose me. My dad is a broker, so I grew up in that environment. When I left teaching, I started as a broker consultant. When the opportunity at Denker Capital presented itself, I knew it had to be my next step; to specialise in asset management. I am so thankful as I truly enjoy this industry so much.
5. What personal achievement/s are you most proud of?
I would have to say my 3-year-old twins, who were born at 30 weeks (10 weeks premature). It has been quite the journey with them, and I’m sure the adventures will continue going forward, and I am really proud of how far we have come.
6. Which hobby/skill, no matter how advanced, would you learn if you had the chance?
I would like to learn how to play an instrument, specifically a guitar. It’s never too late though, so I’m sure I’ll get there!
